Future Builders School
Building Futures - Building Lives
Leave No Trace
The outdoor education program is based on a 25 acre parcel of woodland on Thomas Pond in Raymond, Maine. There, we use the natural environment to teach outdoor skills, service learning, leadership skills and concepts in environmental stewardship.
The program teaches academics using the outdoor context as impetus for learning. Students learn to sail, kayak, climb, hike, mountain bike and more. They also engage in community service projects such as environmental stewardship through the Portland Water district, organic farming with a local community sponsored food service program, and pet population problems through service to a local humane society.
Our hope is that students learn self-confidence and have increased academic success through the compelling nature of the outdoor activities as well and the individualized nature of the instruction.
